China Reiterates Call for Dialogue Between India and Pakistan to Resolve Kashmir Issue

China has reiterated its stance on the Kashmir issue, emphasizing that it should be resolved through dialogue and consultation between India and Pakistan. The statement comes in response to India’s Supreme Court judgment on Article 370, which upheld the central government’s decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China’s position is consistent and clear-cut, advocating for a peaceful and appropriate resolution in accordance with the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions, and relevant bilateral agreements. The spokesperson emphasized the need for the parties involved to settle the dispute through dialogue to maintain regional peace and stability.

The Kashmir issue has been a longstanding point of contention between India and Pakistan, with both countries claiming the region in its entirety. China’s consistent support for dialogue aligns with its diplomatic approach to regional conflicts and adherence to international principles. The recent Supreme Court verdict in India has reignited discussions on the status of Jammu and Kashmir, with Pakistan rejecting the legal validity of the decision and calling for international intervention. The situation remains complex, and diplomatic efforts will be crucial in addressing the historical and geopolitical dimensions of the Kashmir dispute.
