Cabinet Approval: 75 Lakh Additional LPG Connections for PM Ujjwala Scheme

In its weekly meeting, the Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has granted its approval for the provision of an extra 75 lakh LPG connections to women beneficiaries as part of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

Over the next three years, these additional LPG connections will be offered, with a financial commitment of Rs 1650 crore, as highlighted by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur during a press briefing.

Under the existing Ujjawala 2.0 program, recipients will also receive their first LPG refill and stove at no cost.

A fortnight ago, the Union Cabinet took a step to alleviate the burden on citizens by reducing the prices of LPG cylinders by Rs 200. This decision lowered the cost of a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi, for example, from the previous Rs 1,103 to Rs 903.

This reduction was applied uniformly and was in addition to the established targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder for Ujjwala households, which will remain in effect. As a result of this reduction, the effective price for Ujjwala beneficiaries in Delhi now stands at Rs 703 per cylinder.

Currently, there are more than 31 crore domestic LPG consumers, with 9.6 crore being Ujjwala beneficiaries.
