Low pressure: Red alert in 3 districts on Friday and 5 districts on Saturday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has issued red alerts in various districts of Kerala as part of the formation of low pressure in the Arabian Sea. The red alert was issued on May 14 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts and on May 15 in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. Widespread strong winds, rains, and sea squalls are forecast in Kerala as the low-pressure area is likely to turn into a cyclone and pass over the Kerala coast.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains. Extreme levels of rainfall over 204 mm in 24 hours are called extreme rainfall. This type of rain is extremely dangerous.

The formation and development of low pressure are being closely monitored by the State Disaster Management Authority. The alerts may change as the Central Meteorological Department changes the warning.

The low-pressure area is formed in the southeastern Arabian Sea near Lakshadweep. The low-pressure area formed this morning. It is likely to regain strength in the next 24 hours. The hurricane will move north-northwest on Sunday morning with intense low pressure on Saturday morning.
