Thrissur pooram is set to start today in great style

Thrissur Pooram, Kerala’s iconic festival, commences today in a splendid display of tradition and festivity. Led by Ernakulam Sivakumar and Kuttur Neithalakavilamma, the opening ceremony at the southern gopuram of Vadakkunnathan signals the beginning of this grand celebration. Despite the scorching sun, thousands gather to witness the vibrant spectacle, filled with fairs, music, and breathtaking fireworks. From the rhythmic beats of Panchavadya and Pandi Melam to the majestic procession of adorned elephants, the festival captures the essence of Kerala’s cultural heritage.

As the day progresses, the air fills with the enchanting melodies of Panchavadyam at Thiruvambadi Mutt, setting the stage for a procession of regal elephants accompanied by Pandi Melam. The renowned Ilanjithara Melam, featuring hundreds of talented artists, captivates spectators with its mesmerizing rhythms and melodies. Evening brings the eagerly anticipated meeting of Bhagawathi and the kudamattam, a spectacle witnessed by a multitude of spectators, followed by a dazzling display of fireworks illuminating the night sky.

Thrissur Pooram concludes with the Pakalpuram, where approximately 100 majestic elephants, having undergone fitness tests, participate in a grand procession at Sreemulasthanam.
