Strong winds and rain in the state for the next three hours; Warning for 13 districts

Weather forecast for heavy rains in the state in the next three hours. The Met Department has warned of strong winds of up to 40 kmph and thundershowers in 13 districts of the state except Pathanamthitta. The Kerala Disaster Management Authority issued a warning at 10 am. The meteorological department said the situation would remain similar in the Lakshadweep region.

Hurricane Tauote is expected to make landfall off the coast of Goa tonight. The cyclone travels along the west coast of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat.Coastal areas from Kochi to Karachi, Pakistan have been warned. Currently, the epicenter is about 200 km from Lakshadweep. The Prime Minister has convened a high-level meeting to assess the preparations and rescue efforts to be made in the event of a hurricane.

Yesterday alone, cyclones and heavy rains wreaked havoc in southern and central Kerala. It is reported that the roofs of many houses in the high range areas of Idukki have collapsed. Many houses along the coast, including Chellanam in Ernakulam, were destroyed in the storm.Fishing is also strictly prohibited. People have been shifted to safer places in Chellana and Kannamali following the floods. According to 24 reports, four relief camps have been set up in Chellanam alone.
