Kerala Government’s Swearing-In Thursday, “Restricted To 500 Invitees

Thiruvananthapuram: The newly-elected CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front government in Kerala will be sworn-in on Thursday at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, with number of invitees restricted to 500, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The ceremony is taking place amid a lockdown in the state which is in force till May 23 and four districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, under a stricter “triple lockdown” due to rising number of coronavirus cases.

On Saturday, the Kerala unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had recommended that the swearing-in ceremony of the government be done virtually in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases.

The Left Democratic Front, led by the CPI(M), retained power with a comfortable majority. The Front won 99 out of the total 140 Assembly seats.

According to reports, admission to the Central Stadium, as per the revised decision, will only be for those who have gotten both doses of the vaccine and have a COVID-19 negative certificate.

“Very few people will participate in the swearing-in ceremony.We will let you know,” Vijayan said when media personnel asked him about the total number of people expected to participate in the function.

 

Media reports had earlier claimed that over 700 people are likely to be invited for the function.
