The Central Government says covaxin testing in children will begin in 10-12 days
New Delhi: The Centrel government has said that covaxin testing in children up to the age of 18 will begin in 10-12 days. Covaxin has received permission from the Drug Controller General of India to test the vaccine on children between the ages of two and 18, said Justice Commission member VK Paul.
Last week, the Union Health Ministry had said that a proposal to conduct a vaccine test was being considered by the subject expert committee on May 11. The vaccine was approved for testing on May 13. The experiment will be conducted on 525 people at various locations.
Covaxin is manufactured by Bharat Biotech in association with ICMR. Vaccination of adults in the country with covaccine and Covishield is carried out. Most countries do not approve vaccines for children. Last week, Pfizer-Bio-Entech was approved to provide for children between the ages of 12 and 15. Canada has given similar recognition.
