Karnataka Extends Lockdown Till June 7

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday extended the statewide lockdown by another two weeks; it will now be in force till June 7. The lockdown in the state was announced first on April 28 and is in place till May 24. Speaking to the media, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that the decision has been taken after chairing a meeting with officials and ministers.

“These decisions are taken keeping the interest of citizens in mind. I request people to cooperate. The Covid-19 is spreading to rural areas and the death toll is going up,” Yediyurappa said.

The state during the last two days had reported over 30,000 fresh cases, which was around 40,000 last week.

The positivity rate has been over 20 per cent in 27 of the 30 districts in the state.
