YouTube Premium Expands to 10 New Countries, Including Student Plans

YouTube Premium, the paid tier of the popular video-streaming platform, has extended its reach to ten additional countries, bringing the total number of countries with access to the subscription service to 100. This expansion, which includes the introduction of student plans, follows YouTube Premium surpassing 100 million subscribers in February 2024, marking a significant milestone nine years after its introduction.

The geographic expansion was first noted by Android Police, which observed updates to Google’s support page indicating the addition of ten new countries to YouTube Premium’s availability. These countries include Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Libya, Morocco, RĂ©union, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen, and Zimbabwe. However, the service is temporarily disabled in Russia, leaving a total of 99 countries currently offering the subscription.

In these newly added countries, users can access YouTube Premium’s individual, family, and student plans. The student plan, available at a discounted rate, requires annual verification of full-time student status through a third-party verification service. The family subscription permits up to five family members aged 13 or older to join a Google family group and benefit from a single subscription, albeit at a slightly higher price than the individual plan.

YouTube Premium offers users an array of features, including ad-free viewing, offline video downloads, background play via picture-in-picture mode, and bundled access to YouTube Music. In India, subscription plans start at Rs. 129 per month for recurring payments, with a two-month free trial for new subscribers. Prepaid options begin at Rs. 139 per month, while the Family plan is priced at Rs. 189 per month, and the Student plan at Rs. 79 per month, both with a one-month free trial period.

This expansion underscores YouTube’s commitment to enhancing its global presence and providing diverse subscription options to meet the needs of users across various regions.
