WhatsApp changes stance; Features will not be limited

NEW DELHI: WhatsApp has softened its stand on privacy policy. It said it would not limit the operational features of the application. The authorities said this would continue till the Personal Information Security Act came into force in India.

The new response comes a week after the announcement that it would gradually limit the features users get if they do not adopt the company’s privacy policy. The warning was that access to chat and video calls would slowly be lost before the account was deleted.

The company had moved the last date for adopting the privacy policy from May 7 to 15. This was followed by WhatsApp with a stern warning to users. Meanwhile, company sources said they will continue to remind users from time to time about the update. WhatsApp said it had also responded to the central government’s May 18 letter.
