The monsoon may arrive on May 31; A repetition of previous years????

Thiruvananthapuram: The southwest monsoon in the state will arrive early this time. According to the Union Meteorological Department, the monsoon will arrive on May 31. Currently, the monsoon has reached Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The monsoon journey was accelerated due to the influence of Cyclone Yas, which formed in the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon usually arrives in the first days of June.

Reports by the Union Meteorological Department indicate that there is not only a possibility of early but also extreme rainfall as in previous years. Scientists have analysed data and observations so far that rainfall similar to 2019, which caused the second flood, may occur this time, late June and July.

But there are no official confirmations or analysis of this yet. The trend of cyclones and cyclones in the Arabian Sea in the state for the past few years is also adding to the concern. The state has not fully recovered from the impact of Cyclone Taukate, which formed in the Arabian Sea earlier this year.

The state received heavy summer rains this time. Cyclone Taukate also contributed to this. In this situation, the soil of the state is soaked and many dams are full. The shutters are already open and water is being poured out. Experts say that if there is heavy rainfall in this situation, there is a possibility of a flood.

The atmosphere is almost ready for the rainy season. The monsoon will start at the end of this month unless there are special weather conditions. Private meteorologist Tamil Nadu Weatherman has warned that the monsoon will arrive in Kerala earlier this year.
