Kerala High Court Mulls Legal Team to Investigate Sabarimala Overcrowding

The Kerala High Court is considering the appointment of a legal team to investigate grievances related to overcrowding at Sabarimala. Justices Anil K Narendran and G Girish are reviewing multiple complaints from devotees who face challenges due to inadequate regulation by the police and the Devaswom Board. The proposed 12-member lawyer team would conduct an inspection at Sabarimala, evaluating areas such as the queue complex and rest zones, focusing on facilities and the difficulties faced by devotees. A final decision on this initiative is pending.

The court’s intervention comes in response to escalating traffic issues, prompting acceptance of a voluntary petition and a demand for a comprehensive report on the situation. The court has directed the provision of essential amenities like food and water at Elavunkal. The government has assured the court that current congestion is under control, with the ADGP scheduled to provide an explanation accompanied by a video presentation showcasing measures taken. In response to the proposed legal team, the government has mentioned the closure of illegal routes to Sannidhanam, suggesting a potential lack of necessity for a formal examination.
