The government’s science adviser warns that the third wave of covid may have started in the UK. The warning comes as all lockdown restrictions in Britain expire on June 21.

The BBC reported that the scientific adviser Boris Johnson said to the government that the B.1.617.2 variant of Covid, first discovered in India, had caused an ‘exponential spread’ in the country.

Professor Ravi Gupta, a scientific advisor, directed the government to postpone its decision to remove the covid restrictions on June 21.

More than 3,000 new cases have been reported daily in the UK over the past five days. The increase in cases began after April 12. Ravi Gupta says that according to the new cases, 75 per cent of the variant sits in India.

He also made it clear that a good portion of the UK population had been immunised so it would take longer than the previous waves for the third wave to intensify. He also reminded that more intelligent moves need to be made before unlock proceedings can begin.
