Risk of unsafe sex and porn addiction

Sydney: In a study of college students, Australian researchers linked porn addiction with increased sexual risk, such as unsafe practices and more sexual partners.

In an article titled “The Relationship Between Pornography Use and Sexually Intimate Behavior in Adult Users: A Systematic Review,” the team at the University of Sydney and Curtin University discusses the potential value of including pornography information in sexual health and prevention strategies.

Sexually risky behaviors such as having casual sex, not having a condom, and having multiple sex partners have been associated with poor health outcomes, including an increase in sexually transmitted infections.

However, some findings in the studies may not be generalised for all since they are done on college students,’ she noted.

“This review highlighted the need for methodological improvements in this area of research,” said Brenda K. Wiederhold of the Interactive Media Lab in San Diego, California. He has a systematic review of published research detailed in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking.
