Dengue Outbreak Grips State: Six Deaths Reported in Two Weeks

Dengue fever has emerged as a significant concern in the state, with six fatalities reported in the past two weeks alone. Over this period, 1373 individuals exhibiting symptoms have sought medical attention across various hospitals, with 294 confirmed cases of the disease. Alarmingly, results for 1079 individuals are pending, raising fears of a wider outbreak.

The onset of summer rains has exacerbated the situation, providing conducive breeding grounds for mosquitoes responsible for transmitting not only dengue but also other vector-borne illnesses like chikungunya, malaria, filariasis, and Zika. In response, health authorities have emphasized the urgent need to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and advised the public to take preventive measures against mosquito bites.

With dengue known to cause a sudden drop in blood platelet levels, prompt medical intervention is crucial for those infected. The health department warns of the risks associated with intermittent rains, urging vigilance and proactive measures to mitigate the spread of diseases. This includes preventing water stagnation around residential and institutional premises, where mosquitoes thrive.

Recognizable symptoms of dengue include high fever, headaches, muscle pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sore throat, cough, and eye pain. Public awareness campaigns are underway to educate individuals on recognizing these signs and seeking timely medical assistance to curb the outbreak’s further escalation.
