GB Pant Hospital in Delhi bans nurses from speaking Malayalam The order was issued by the nursing superintendent. The order says that only Hindi or English should be spoken or strict action will be taken.

The order said the action followed a complaint that it was making it difficult for patients and colleagues to speak Malayalam. However, The Malayali nurses told the national media that the superintendent’s hostility to the Malayali nurses was behind the move.

The Malayali nurses said that for two years nurses from Kerala have been put only on covid duty and there are people from northern India who do not get this duty. The nurses pointed out that there are people from different parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Mizoram and others who are hospital staff and all of them speak in the local language.
