Alphonse Puthren’s Big Premam Revelation Will Astound You!

Premam, best known as Malayalam’s trendsetter, recently celebrated 6 years since its massive release. The film, starring Nivin Pauly, Anupama Parameswaran, Madonna Sebastian, and Sai Pallavi, made waves upon its release on May 29, 2015, thanks to its enthralling storyline, innovative cinematography, music, and, of course, the star-studded cast that won the hearts of the audience.

Alphonse Puthren, the director of Premam, recently made headlines for his social media interaction with netizens. On June 4, the filmmaker apparently took to Facebook to interact with them, as he wrote, “If you have any questions about filmmaking, please do not hesitate to contact me. I’ll try to respond if I know what it is. If I don’t know, I’ll figure something out. Start…” Though many people questioned Alphonse about filmmaking, a few social media users took advantage of the opportunity to clear their doubts and questions about the Nivin Pauly-starrer.

When a netizen asked Alphonse about the Tamil language’s influence in his films and his thoughts on replacing Malar (a Tamil-speaking teacher played by Sai Pallavi) with a Malayalam-speaking character, he revealed that the character was originally framed as someone from Kerala’s Fort Kochi. He also stated that he wanted actress Asin to play Malar opposite Nivin in Premam. “In the beginning, when I wrote the script, it was Malayalam,” he wrote. I had hoped that Asin would appear in Malar’s Malayalam remake. I couldn’t get in touch with Asin because the character was from Fort Kochi. Nivin also gave it a shot. After that, I abandoned the idea and wrote it in Tamizh. This is in the beginning stage of the script. When I was younger, I went to school in Ooty and then went to Chennai to study film. That explains the strong Tamizh ties.” Now that his big reveal has gone viral on social media, fans are expressing their disbelief and hoping that Asin responds in kind.

On a related note, following the box office success of Premam, Alphonse returns to the director’s chair with Paatu, starring Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara.
