Mango with the highest price tag! Noorjahan’s price per piece is Rs 1000.

Indore: The ‘Noorjahan’ mango, grown in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district, is fetching a higher price this year due to a higher yield and larger fruit size compared to last year.

A farmer said on Sunday (June 6) that the ‘Noorjahan’ mango is priced at Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per piece this season, and that, unlike last year, the yield of this variety of mangoes has been good this time due to favourable weather conditions.

According to locals, ‘Noorjahan’ mangoes are of Afghan origin and are only grown in the Katthiwada region of Alirajpur district, close to the Gujarat border, about 250 kilometers from Indore.

“My orchard’s three Noojahan mango trees have yielded 250 mangoes. The price of the fruit ranges between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 per piece. These mangoes have already been reserved “Shivraj Singh Jadhav, a Katthiwada-based mango cultivator, explained.

People who have booked ‘Noorjahan’ mangoes in advance include fruit lovers from Madhya Pradesh as well as neighbouring Gujarat, according to him.

“This time, the weight of a Noorjahan mango will be between 2 kg and 3.5 kg,” Jadhav explained.

“This time the crop of this variety has been good, but the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the business,” said Ishaq Mansoori, an expert in cultivating ‘Noorjahan’ mangoes in Katthiwada.

He stated that due to unfavourable climatic conditions in 2020, ‘Noorjahan’ trees would be unable to flower properly.

“In 2019, one mango of this variety weighed approximately 2.75 kg on average, and buyers paid as much as Rs 1,200 per piece,” he added.

The ‘Noorjahan’ variety bears fruit in late May or early June. These trees begin to bloom in January and February.

According to local cultivators, a ‘Noorjahan’ mango can grow up to a foot long and its kernels weigh between 150 and 200 grammes.
