Google Pixel phones will receive a June update that includes features such as Astrophotography time-lapse and Locked Photos Folders.

Google has released a new Pixel Feature Drop update for its Pixel devices. Google is known for releasing new Pixel smartphone features every three months. The most recent June update includes some intriguing new features. At least one of the promised features is included in the Google Camera update: time-lapse astrophotography. Unfortunately, these features are only available on Pixel devices right now.

Google Camera 8.2.400 is now available on Google Play, and after installing it on a Pixel 4 smartphone running Android 11, the astrophotography video feature has been added. Night Sight time-lapse/video is now included in Astrophotography. You can find it in Google Cam’s Settings > Advanced > Enable time-lapse for astrophotography.

To use the Astrophotography feature, you must mount your phone on a tripod because it must be completely still. Then, launch Night Sight and press the shutter button. Allow the phone a minute or so after it starts recording to capture images of the night sky. When you’re satisfied that it’s taken enough photos, tap the shutter button again, and Android will create a stunning image with an animated starry backdrop.

Another useful photography feature teased at the Google I/O event was the ability to create a private folder in Google Photos that could be secured with a password or biometrics. That feature will be available to Google Pixel users with the June Pixel Drop. Not only will you be able to save all of your personal or sensitive photos to a Locked Folder, but you will also be able to save photos taken with the camera directly to the Locked Folder. Even better, all of the images are saved locally and will not appear in your device’s memories, shared albums, or other apps.

Another significant update is the personal safety app’s car crash detection feature. When a car crash is detected, it automatically alerts emergency services. This feature was previously only available in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, but it is now being rolled out to users in Spain, Ireland, and Singapore.

The Pixel Feature Drop update for June 2021 is now available for the following Google Pixel smartphones:

Pixel 5
Pixel 4a (5G)
Pixel 4a
Pixel 4 XL
Pixel 4
Pixel 3a XL
Pixel 3a
Pixel 3 XL
Pixel 3

Since June is Pride month, Google is celebrating by adding new Pride-themed wallpapers and sounds. Also, users of Pixel 4 and above can now ask Google Assistant to accept or reject calls.
