Heavy rains have caused flooding in several locations; a red alert has been issued for Mumbai and Thane.

The southwest monsoon arrived in Mumbai and its surrounding areas on Wednesday morning, bringing heavy rains to the country’s financial capital and suburbs. Local services between Kurla and CSMT were halted due to waterlogging recorded in several locations. Several BEST buses were also rerouted. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 infections in the city increased by 673, bringing the total to 7,13,002. With seven new deaths due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, the city’s death toll rose to 15,073, the lowest single-day death count since March 28, 2021. The Mumbai District has a 95% recovery rate, with a case doubling rate of 543 days. There are 15,701 active residents in the city.
