Former High Court Chief Justice S. Manikumar Chosen as New Chairman of Human Rights Commission : V. D. Satheeshan Expresses Displeasure

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Justice of the High Court, S. Manikumar, has been selected as the upcoming Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission. This decision comes despite opposition leader V. D. Satheeshan’s objections to the appointment.

During the search committee meeting held on Monday, V. D. Satheeshan voiced his disagreement with S. Manikumar’s nomination. However, his dissenting stance did not lead to any alteration, as the majority of the committee endorsed the decision to appoint S. Manikumar. The search committee includes Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Speaker A. N. Shamseer.

Earlier, a controversy arose when the opposition raised concerns about S. Manikumar’s participation in a government-organized banquet while serving as Chief Justice.

The selection of the new chairman follows the retirement of the incumbent, Justice Anthony Dominic. The chairman’s term lasts for three years or until they reach the age of 71. Anthony Dominic retired on May 31st.
