India reports 94,052 new Covid cases, highest single-day spike of 6,148 deaths

New Delhi: With Bihar revising its estimates and putting the total number of deaths caused by COVID-19 at 9,429, India saw the highest single-day spike of 6,148 deaths, bringing the total to 3,59,676, while 94,052 new cases brought the total to 2,91,83,121, according to data updated on Thursday by the Union health ministry.

The number of active cases has decreased to 11,67,952, accounting for 4% of all infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 94.77 percent, according to the study.
The total number of COVID-19 cases has decreased by 63,463 cases in the last 24 hours, according to data revised at 8 a.m.

In addition, 20,04,690 tests were conducted on Wednesday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the country to 37,21,98,253, with a daily positivity rate of 4.69 percent. According to the ministry, it has been less than 10% for 17 days in a row.

Cumulatively, 24,27,26,693 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive in the country.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

It reached the 60 lakh mark on September 28, the 70 lakh mark on October 11, the 80 lakh mark on October 29, the 90 lakh mark on November 20, and the one-crore mark on December 19. On May 4, India passed the dreadful two-crore mark.
There were 3,971 new deaths in Bihar, 661 in Maharashtra, 405 in Tamil Nadu, 192 in Karnataka, and 156 in Kerala.

The state health department sharply increased the COVID-19 death toll in Bihar on Wednesday, putting the total number of deaths caused by the pandemic at 9,429.
So far, 3,59,676 deaths have been recorded across the country, with Maharashtra accounting for 1,01,833 deaths, Karnataka 32,291 deaths, Tamil Nadu 28,170 deaths, Delhi 24,704 deaths, Uttar Pradesh 21,516 deaths, West Bengal 16,555 deaths, Punjab 15,293 deaths, and Chhattisgarh 13,271 deaths.

More than 70% of deaths, according to the health ministry, were caused by comorbidities.
“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the state-by-state distribution of figures is still being checked and reconciled.
