Kerala logs 14,424 new Covid cases on Thursday; 194 fatalities

Thiruvananthapuram: On Thursday, Kerala registered 14 424 new cases of Covid, reported a Health Department press release. The death toll increased to 10,631 with 194 new deaths. Positive test rates of 13.45 percent were recorded.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram – 2030, Kollam – 1605, Malappuram – 1597, Ernakulam – 1596, Thrissur – 1359, Palakkad – 1312, Kozhikode – 1008, Alappuzha – 848, Kannur – 750, Idukki – 673, Kottayam – 580, Kasaragod – 443, Pathanamthitta – 429 and Wayanad – 194.
A total of 1,07,250 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 2,09,10,418 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

Out of the state, 109 new COVID patients have been returned. Thirteen,535 people were contacted by the virus. 718 patients remain unidentified as a source of infection.

62 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, 11 each were from Ernakulam and Kasaragod, 8 from Kannur, 7 from Thrissur, 6 from Kollam, 5 from Thiruvananthapuram, 4 each from Pathanamthitta and Wayanad, 3 from Kottayam, 2 from Palakkad ad 1 from Malappuram.
Meanwhile, 17,994 recoveries were also reported in the state.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,35,298 in the state. 25,42,242 people recovered from the disease so far.

Currently, the state is monitoring 5,80,417 people. Of these, 5,48,451 people are in hospitals and 31,966 are in home-institute quarantine. Thursday took 2820 people to hospitals.
On Thursday two new spots were added to the hotspots list, and no spots were deleted. 891 hotspots exist in the state at present.
