To stay healthy, choose the right cooking oil.

Delhi: Amid the pandemic, a healthy diet can help to boost your immunity, assisting in disease prevention.

Making healthy food a part of your diet, on the other hand, can be difficult for a variety of reasons. Snacking, for example, has increased significantly during the current lockdown, not only during evening chai breaks but also in between meals to get through the day. We end up looking for options that require less effort due to a lack of time. While we are all aware that making conscious choices is essential in today’s world, juggling work-from-home and family responsibilities make it difficult to prioritise health.

Making small changes in daily cooking can go a long way in making your diet healthy, without adding any extra burden on you. An easy step is to use the right cooking oil. You may ask, why cooking oil?

When you think about it, cooking oil is one of the ingredients that we almost certainly use when cooking almost every meal, and it has the highest calorie per gramme of any option. In effect, using the proper cooking oil can make any meal a little healthier. When we think of cooking oil, the first thing that comes to mind is to use less of it, but that alone may not be enough.

Nmami Agarwal, a nutritionist, breaks it down.

Cooking oils are fats, and they are important macronutrients just like protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins. Cooking oil contains three types of fatty acids: monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and saturated fatty acid (SFA) (SFA). The National Institute of Nutrition recommends that healthy oils have a good balance of all three fatty acids. Unfortunately, most single seed cooking oils available in India that we use are high in either MUFA or PUFA.

This is why doctors and nutritionists advise you to change your oil regularly. However, simply alternating between different oils without understanding the fatty acid ratios of each oil will not provide you with the benefit you seek.

Using blended oils is an easy way to get the right balance of MUFA and PUFA. Blending is a scientific process that cannot be accomplished at home by simply mixing oils; the oils are carefully chosen in scientifically tested ratios so that we get the benefits of individual oils as well as the proper fatty acid profile. These oils have numerous health benefits.

Blended oils combine the benefits of two oils to create a synergistic effect that aids in immunity building. It is also great for your heart health, as it helps reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase good cholesterol (HDL) (HDL). They also have a high smoke point, which makes them suitable for all types of cooking (frying, sauteing, etc.). Some of them also include LoSorb Technology, which allows food to absorb less oil while remaining light on your stomach. There are many options for blended oils on the market, such as Saffola, that can help with heart health and overall health.
