COVID-19 Unlock: From 14th June in 27 districts Tamil Nadu relaxed restrictions

Chennai: With the number of new COVID-19 cases declining, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced a slew of relaxations in restrictions across 27 districts, including Chennai, on Sunday (June 13), to take effect on June 14.

The curbs, however, will remain in 11 districts, including seven in the western and four in the Cauvery delta regions.

Salons, parks, and state-run liquor outlets in the districts would reopen after a 35-day hiatus.

As part of the unlocking process, the chief minister stated that tea shops would be permitted to operate from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tea stalls, which also sell snacks and other items, have been ordered to close as of May 10.

Stalin urged people to bring hot beverages home in vessels rather than plastic bags.

“Sweet and savory shops are also permitted to operate from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with only parcel services permitted,” the CM ordered. Restaurants and bakeries were already permitted to operate.

Building construction firms’ offices will be allowed to work with a 50% workforce under the new guidelines.

However, places of worship and tourist attractions will remain closed, and there will be no public or private bus services during the prolonged lockdown.
