Misusing maternity leave; Kerala education department directs new rules

In the wake of misusing maternity leave provision by school teachers, the Department of General and Higher Education has come up with new directions to stop such practices. As per the new directions, those teachers who are expecting their delivery date in summer vacation should denote starting of their maternity leave period on the actual date and not the school reopening date.

The department intervened in the wake of the pile of applications received for attendance regularization related to maternity provision. Meanwhile, the department made it clear that those teachers whose maternity leave ends on March 31 or after the beginning of the vacation can carry forward the vacation days after their leave days.
