S Ramesan Nair, a well-known Malayalam lyricist and poet, has died.

S Ramesan Nair, a well-known Malayalam lyricist, and poet died in Kochi at the age of 73. Ramesan Nair was being treated at a private hospital in Kochi after testing positive for the coronavirus. He died on June 18th. He was also undergoing cancer treatment. Ramesan Nair is the lyricist of many well-known Malayalam film songs. ‘Neeyen Kinaavo’ from Hello My Dear Wrong Number, ‘Gurucharanam’ from Guru, ‘Puthumazhayayi vaanu ni’ from Aakaashaganga, and the songs in Aniyathipravu are some of his most popular songs. Other popular films for which he wrote songs include Puthukkottayile Puthumanavaalan and Aniyan Baava. Sreekrishnapurathu Nakshathrathilakkam, Chettan Baava, Mayilppeelikkaavu, etc

He also translated the Tamil works Thirukkural and Chilapathikaram into Malayalam. He has also written ‘Guru pournami,’ a poem based on Sree Narayana Guru’s life. In 2018 he was awarded the Guru Pournami Kendra Sahitya Academy Award. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award of Kerala Sahitya Akademi in 2010. He worked for All India Radio earlier.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences on Nair’s death. “His death is a tremendous loss to the Malayalam language and literature. In a statement, Pinarayi Vijayan said, “His work on Sree Narayana Guru has timeless value.” Ramesan Nair, according to the CM, also made a name for himself in the Malayalam film industry and literature.

Ramesan Nair was transferred from All India Radio over political issues after his political satire drama ‘Shathabhishekam’ became widely popular in Kerala, according to the Kerala CM. According to Pinarayi Vijayan, Ramesan resigned from his job at AIR as a result of this.

Between 1985 and 2000, Ramesan Nair composed music for over 70 Malayalam films. His wife and son survive him. Manu Ramesan, Ramesan’s son, is a music director.

Many musicians have also expressed their condolences over his death.

“My dearest brother, Ramesan nair, great poet passed away,” singer MG Sreekumar said. There are so many memories. A fantastic legend. May his soul find peace.”
