COVID-19: 7,499 instances reported in Kerala on Monday, with a TPR of less than ten percent.

Kerala reported 7,499 COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 28,16,893.

13,596 persons were cured of the virus, bringing the total number of people who recovered to 27,04,554.

In a news release, Health Minister Veena George claimed the number of active cases has dropped to 99,693. After nearly two months, the number of active cases has dropped below 1 lakh.

77,853 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, with a test positivity rate of 9.63 percent.

The TPR peaked at 10% on April 10, 2021, and has been steadily increasing since then.

While the TPR dropping below 10% is encouraging, it’s also possible that this is due to the fact that the overall number of Covid tests performed on Sundays is often lower than on weekdays.

The average TPR over the last 7 days is a more conclusive signal of favourable signs. After more than two months, it had dropped to less than 1% on Sunday.

The state’s death toll has now increased to 12,154, with 94 deaths confirmed on Monday.

There were 38 health personnel among the positive cases, 47 from outside the state, and 6835 affected by contact. 529 of them were infected from an unknown source.
