In 9 more cities Sputnik V will be available

Sputnik V, a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Russia’s Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, will be available in many Indian cities soon.

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories announced on Wednesday that the vaccine, which debuted in Hyderabad on May 14, will be available in the United States.

Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Baddi, Miryalaguda, and Kolhapur are among the cities represented. In a press release, Dr Reddy’s stated that the company intends to expand into more cities.

Sputnik registration, however, is not yet available on the CoWIN (Covid Vaccine Intelligence Work) app.

According to a press release from Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, “this pilot phase has allowed us to test our cold storage arrangements of -18°C temperature in these cities, CoWIN integration, track-and-trace, and other logistical arrangements ahead of our commercial launch.”

“Adequate cold chain units are being deployed, and the last-mile cold chain arrangement is being validated at each partner hospital to ensure seamless vaccine storage and handling. All necessary supply arrangements are being put in place to ensure that both dose components are available in the right quantity and at the right time at partner hospitals. Dr. Reddy’s will announce the commercial launch of Sputnik V once the pilot phase is completed.”

Individuals aged 18 and up are eligible for active immunisation with the vaccine. The vaccine is made up of two components, I and II, which are not interchangeable and should be given intramuscularly in two doses of 0.5 ml each at a 21-day interval.

According to a press release from Gamaleya and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the Sputnik V vaccine for COVID-19 has a 92 percent efficacy rate (RDIF). The confirmation is based on preliminary data from Russia’s largest randomised, placebo-controlled Phase-III clinical trials, which enlisted 40,000 volunteers.

In April, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved the Russian COVID-19 vaccine for limited emergency use. It is the country’s third vaccine to be made available.
