Karnataka reduces the lockdown in six more districts, including Bengaluru Rural, allowing hotels and gyms to reopen while shopping malls remain closed.

The ‘Unlock 2’ COVID-19 guidelines went into effect in Karnataka on Monday (June 21) and will be in effect until 5 a.m. on July 5. The Karnataka government announced a new set of recommendations on Saturday, easing COVID-19 restrictions in numerous districts throughout the state, including Bengaluru. The government had already eased limits in 17 of the state’s districts.

 

Bengaluru Urban, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Mandya, Koppala, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Kolar, Gadag, Dharwad, Raichur, Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Ramanagara, Yadgir, and Bidar are all covered by these exemptions. The existing relaxation, which went into effect on June 11, will apply to the rest of the districts with a positivity rate of more than 5%, allowing essential shops to open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and people to move until 7 p.m. Mysuru, which has a high rate of positive, will be under heavy lockdown until July 5.

On Monday, the state government’s instructions further lowering Covid-19 curbs in 17 districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru city, went into force, allowing hotels and gyms to reopen and public transportation buses and Metro to begin service with riders.

From June 21 to July 5, these relaxations will be in effect in Karnataka.

Every night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., there is a curfew.
Buses may accommodate up to 50% of their passengers.
Weekend curfew is in effect from Friday at 7 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.
Public transportation will operate at half capacity.
Hotels, clubs, and restaurants without air conditioning can stay open until 5 p.m. with a 50% capacity. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted.
Gyms began operating at half capacity.
Parks will be open for walking and jogging from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The operation of lodges and resorts with bookings of up to 50% is permitted.
Outdoor sports without spectators are permitted.

Though bus operations have come as a relief to office goers and others who rely on them for commuting, they are plying in smaller numbers and with 50% capacity, causing chaos at bus stands throughout the city, with a greater number of people wanting to use its services.

While the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has stated that it will initially deploy 3,000 buses for local and inter-district long-distance bus operations, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has stated that it will operate 2,000 buses. According to BMTC officials, 796 buses were in service as of 8 a.m.

Hotels, clubs, and restaurants without air conditioning remained open until 5 p.m., with 50% occupancy.

On weekdays, the curfew will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., and on weekends, the curfew will be in effect from 7 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday throughout the state.

All swimming pools remain shut
All religious places of worship to stay close
All political events remain prohibited
All educational institutions, shopping malls, pubs and amusement parks to remain shut
