Locadown helps to reduce the spread of the disease; Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said the lockdown has helped reduce the spread of covid disease in the state. The test positivity rate in the last three days is 22.6 per cent. Today it’s 20.41. At the same time, the Chief Minister said it is expected to take two to three weeks for the hospital congestion to subside and the death toll to fall.

The number of active cases in the state was close to 4.5 lakh ten days ago. As of Sunday, it was down to 2,77,598. Today it is 2,59,179. At the same time, ten days ago, 91 per cent of covid patients were treated in homes and nine per cent in hospitals. At present, the number of hospitalized patients has risen to 14 per cent.

 

The Chief Minister said that though a triple countdown has been introduced in Malappuram, there has been no reduction in the number of patients and test positivity rates as per the intensive efforts made by the government.

Meanwhile, 17,821 people in the state have been confirmed as Covid-19 yesterday. Thiruvananthapuram 2570, Malappuram 2533, Palakkad 1898, Ernakulam 1885, Kollam 1494, Thrissur 1430, Alappuzha 1272, Kozhikode 1256, Kottayam 1090, Kannur 947, Idukki 511, Kasargod 444, Pathanamthitta 333 and Wayanad 158 were confirmed in the districts today.
