National award-winning Cinematographer and director Sivan passes away

On Thursday morning, Sivan, a national award-winning cinematographer and director, died. He died of a heart attack in his Thiruvananthapuram home. He was 89 years old.

Sivan was the second of six children born to Gopalapillai of Haripad’s Padeettathil House and Bhavaniamma of Vettuvilanjathi House.

In Travancore and Thiru Kochi, he was the first government press photographer.

In 1959, he started the ‘Sivan Studios’ at Thiruvananthapuram Statue Junction. Sivan began his career as a still photographer for the Malayalam film Chemeen.

He was the recipient of the national award three times. His most well-known films include Abhayam, Yagam, Kochu Kochu Mohangal, Kilivathil, Keshu, and Oru Yathra.

His sons, Sangeeth Sivan, Santosh Sivan, and Sanjeev Sivan, are all in the film industry.
