Three people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh after a man was beaten to death on suspicion of possessing non-veg near a temple.

Ghaziabad Police have arrested three people for allegedly beating a man to death near a temple on suspicion of eating non-vegetarian food.

According to police, the victim, Praveen Saini, and two of his friends, Devendra and Vinod, were eating on the Gangnahar ghat when they were approached by the accused, and the argument turned violent. According to police, the victim was eating soya chaap with roti.

The 22-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death while three ‘inebriated’ people thrashed him.

“The accused were in a drunken state and began creating a ruckus before beating Praveen and his friends with sticks and rods, inflicting serious injuries,” said Kamlesh Narain Pandey, Circle Officer, Sadar. According to the Indian Express, “we have arrested three suspects and further investigation is ongoing.”

“The restaurant bill states unequivocally that they ordered soya chaap and onions with roti. “We have CCTV footage that shows the two groups arguing for nearly 30 minutes before the assault,” Pandey said.

Further investigation revealed that the main accused, Nitin, was stationed in the Army and was on leave at the time of the incident. Aakash and Ashwini are the names of the other two accused.

Meanwhile, the victim worked as a cleaner in nearby temples and stores. The three accused fled the scene in a scooter after committing the heinous crime.
