Operation Ajay Commences: First Evacuation Flight from Tel Aviv to Delhi Today

The much-anticipated Operation Ajay, launched by the central government to evacuate stranded Indians in Israel, is set to begin today. The inaugural flight, scheduled to depart from Tel Aviv to Delhi, marks the commencement of this evacuation mission. The Indian Embassy in Israel meticulously prepared a list of individuals desiring to return home, reaching out to them via email regarding the flight details. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized that this initiative offers a crucial opportunity for those willing to return to India.

In parallel developments, the first group of Malayalee pilgrims, numbering 42 individuals from Kochi, has successfully returned to Kerala. This group had embarked on a pilgrimage to Israel but found themselves caught in the midst of the conflict. Their trip, which included visits to Palestine and Israel, concluded on October 3. Unfortunately, the timing of their visit coincided with escalating tensions, leading to their challenges in returning home.

The situation in Israel remains precarious, with Israeli forces on high alert, poised for a potential ground war in the beleaguered Gaza Strip. Military officials in Israel announced the imminent possibility of ground operations. The conflict has prompted Israel to open ports in multiple locations, responding to attacks from neighboring countries such as Lebanon and Syria. Moreover, a joint cabinet, inclusive of opposition members, has been formed in Israel, reflecting the nation’s unified response to the ongoing crisis.

Tragically, the conflict has led to devastating incidents, including rockets fired by Hamas into the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, hitting a childcare center and causing injuries to many children. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally shared these heart-wrenching images. Israel officially confirmed the loss of 169 soldiers in the conflict, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

As the evacuation efforts under Operation Ajay begin, the Indian government remains committed to ensuring the safe return of its citizens from the conflict zone, offering them much-needed support during these challenging times.
