Dilip Kumar, the legendary actor, has died at the age of 98.

Mumbai: Dilip Kumar, veteran actor, passed away here on Wednesday because of an aged illness in a private hospital. He was 98 years old at the time.

Faisal Farooqui, a family friend of Dilip Kumar, confirmed his death on the actor’s official Twitter account.

His wife, Saira Banu, had stated on Monday that he would recover and return home soon. She had also tweeted an update about his health.

Dilip Kumar was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday after complaining of shortness of breath; it was his second hospitalisation in the same month.

Dilip Kumar was first taken to the hospital on June 6, where he was stabilised and placed on oxygen support.

Sharad Pawar, a politician, was photographed with him. On June 11, Dilip Kumar was released.

Dilip Kumar’s career spans decades, with hits such as “Mughal-e-Azam,” “Devdas,” “Naya Daur,” and “Ram Aur Shyam.”

Dilip Kumar, real name Yusuf Khan, holds the Guinness World Record for the most awards won by an Indian actor.

His most recent film appearance was in the 1998 film “Qila.” For his contributions to Indian cinema, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

In 1997, the Pakistani government awarded the highest civilian honour on him, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz.l
