P Rajeev, Minister of State, responds to Kitex MD’s allegations.

Kerala Industries Minister P Rajeev stated that neither the state government nor any of its departments had initiated an investigation or inspection of Kitex Garments Ltd on their own.

Sabu Jacob, chairman of the Kitex group, who has backed out of a Rs 3,500 crore project in Kerala, said on Friday that he was not leaving his home state on his own, but was being ‘hounded out’ ahead of talks with the Telangana government about his investment plans.

In response, the minister stated that all inspections were conducted as a result of various complaints filed against the company with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Kerala High Court, and other authorities.

During the previous month, the industrialist claimed, Kitex’s various units were raided ten times by officials from various departments. He claimed that the Kerala government officials did not bother to intervene even after he announced his intention to withdraw from the state’s multi-billion-dollar investment project.
