How to Craft Delicious ‘Chambakka’ Wine for a Festive Christmas Celebration

Many believe that the finest wines are crafted from grapes. However, you can indulge in the world of delightful beverages made from a variety of other fruits. For a distinctive experience, consider trying rose apple wine, also known as chambakka wine. Rose apples, with their tart and crisp flavor, are readily available in our own backyards.

With just 21 days of preparation time, you can easily create this unique wine at home. The fundamental process for crafting rose apple wine is quite similar to that of any small-batch wine, and the result is truly delightful.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of rose apples
  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 kilo of sugar
  • 5 teaspoons of yeast
  • 4 pieces each of cinnamon, clove, and cardamom
  • A handful of wheat

Preparation:

  1. Begin by thoroughly washing and cleaning the rose apples, ensuring that you remove the seeds from inside.
  2. Place the cleaned rose apples in a pot and add enough water to completely submerge them.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil and then turn off the heat.
  4. Once the mixture has cooled down, add sugar, yeast, wheat, and the assortment of spices.
  5. Stir the mixture well, and then securely seal it in an airtight glass jar to initiate the fermentation process.
  6. Over the course of 21 days, make sure to stir the mixture thoroughly every alternate day, resealing it tightly each time.
  7. On the 21st day, strain the wine through a cloth to remove any sediments, and then store the filtered wine in a bottle for your enjoyment.
