‘Your limbs would be cut off if you do not leave the state,’Kerala MLAget death threat.

PP Chitharanjan, a Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Alappuzha, has received a death threat via mail at his official address in Thiruvananthapuram. The letter, which has been widely distributed in the media, states that if he does not stop his “goon job,” his right leg and left hand will be severed and he will be brought before the Alappuzha Municipality. The letter further threatens the Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA’s family, saying, “Your wife, children, father, and mother will be poisoned to death.”

Benny Martin of Muvattupuzha is named at the bottom of the letter. “Benny” demanded that the MLA and his family leave India within nine days, and he also threatened other CPI(M) leaders such as AN Shamseer, another MLA, and AA Rahim, state secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). According to Mathrubhumi.com, the MLA forwarded the letter to the Home Department and filed a complaint with the Chief Minister and Assembly Speaker.

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, a Congress politician and MLA from Kottayam, received a similar death threat in the mail just a few days earlier. He was also requested to leave the state and threatened that if he did not, he and his family would be slaughtered. Thiruvanchoor had also filed a complaint, and a police investigation was initiated. Later, he stated that the state should investigate whether the convicts involved in the assassination of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader TP Chandrasekharan were involved.

At the time, Congress leaders VD Satheesan and K Sudhakaran — the state’s Leader of Opposition and party president, respectively — said they suspected the prisoners in TP’s case of playing a role in sending the letter. The suspicions originate from Thiruvanchoor’s position as the state’s Home Minister at the time of the murder.
