5 Common Mistakes You Should Avoid When Brushing Your Teeth

Brushing and flossing are critical for maintaining oral hygiene and caring for your dental health. In the recent Covid19 era, dental hygiene has played a significant role in the fight against diseases such as black fungus and coronavirus. Poor hygiene also leads to lowered immunity and an increased risk of contracting a disease.

Good oral hygiene and dental care lower your chances of contracting any diseases. As a result, one should ensure that thorough cleaning of the mouth is followed by regular brushing and flossing of the teeth. Here are some common mistakes people make when brushing their teeth.

Brushing too vigorously

Brushing too hard weakens your enamel and can eventually lead to gum recession. Make sure to use a toothbrush with soft bristles so that you don’t irritate your gums by brushing too hard.

You are not changing your toothbrush.

If your toothbrush is extremely frayed and the bristles are falling apart, it’s time to replace it with a new one. Dentists recommend that you change your toothbrush frequently and buy a new toothbrush every three months.

Not brushing for a longer period of time

Brushing your teeth for at least two to three minutes is recommended. Brushing your teeth for longer periods of time ensures that all germs are removed and your mouth is thoroughly cleaned.

Brushing too often or too less

Brushing your teeth more than twice a day is ideal. Brush your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. This will ensure that proper dental hygiene is maintained. Brushing too frequently can cause gum and tooth damage.

Ignoring your teeth’s inner surface

Brush the entire surface of your teeth, not just the outside. Make sure to clean the inner surface as well, as germs can accumulate there as well. Your teeth should be cleaned thoroughly from all sides and on all surfaces, including those that are not visible.
