The Centre had earlier announced on Friday that Maharashtra and Kerala accounted for more than half of the COVID-19 cases filed in India last week. It stated that Maharashtra recorded 21% and Kerala 32%, and emphasised the importance of adhering to containment measures.

The government also remarked on the images from tourist attractions, saying that the way people are interacting without following COVID-19 standards is a “major source of concern,” and that such carelessness increases the risk of viral propagation.

It also stated that the country is currently grappling with the second wave and that “we must reconsider whether we can afford to believe that COVID-19 is done.”
