The triple lockdown has benefited Malappuram; If the same status continues, severe restrictions can be lifted in a week’: Collector

Collector K Gopalakrishnan said the conditions in Malappuram district improved with the triple lockdown. Collector told, that if the same level continues, he hopes to avoid triple lockdown in a week.

The lockdown helped us understand how the disease spreads in the district. The spread took place not from outside but from within the houses. This is because infected people do not follow the quarantine inside the houses.

Therefore, no more quarantine will be allowed in houses without the facilities prescribed. Those confirmed by Covid will be transferred to mandatory covid centres. The collector said there is now enough facility in the district and the district administration aims to provide up to 10,000 beds.

One in households with more than 10 members should move to a first line treatment centre or domiciled care centre if the disease is confirmed. The district administration is also advising that stickers will be posted on the houses of those under covid surveillance.

Home quarantine is allowed only if houses with one to five members have two rooms and two bathrooms, including a bath attached bedroom. Home quarantine is permitted only if there are three rooms and three bathrooms, including a bath attached room, in houses with six to eight members.

Home quarantine is allowed only if houses with 9 and 10 members have four rooms and four bathrooms, including a bath attached room. “Police, Kutumbashree, Asha Worker and RRT volunteers will search the houses accurately. They will assess whether there is a facility and whether the quarantine is being followed accurately. After that, suggest measures’ – the collector said.

More people will be tested to see if there has been social spread. The decline in test positivity rates gives hope. He also said that triple lockdown restrictions can be lifted in a week if these are the same circumstances.

Tests are done three times more than before. 22000 to 25000 are currently being tested. But it is reassuring that the number of those who are positive is not rising like this. It is hoped that the triple lockdown will be lifted within a week if all goes well. It is up to the government to make the final decision.

On Tuesday, 5315 people were diagnosed with the disease but the test positivity rate was only 26.57. This is the lowest rate recorded since the lockdown began.
