Uttar Pradesh allows Kanwar Yatra to begin on July 25, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to allow Lord Shiva devotees to perform the Kanwar Yatra beginning July 25, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directing officials on Friday (July 9) to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 protocol and the safety of the yatris, according to PTI.
According to the release, Adityanath reviewed the preparations and security arrangements for the holy Kanwar Yatra-2021 in a meeting with all divisional commissioners of the state and senior officers of police zones. He directed the officials to communicate with the Kanwar sanghs and ensure that there is no unnecessary crowding and that proper precautions are taken.
“Adherence to the Covid protocol should be strictly enforced. There should be no doubts about the safe and successful operation of Kanwar Yatras “UP CM stated. Furthermore, he stated that preparations for the Kanwar Yatras should be completed well in advance.
The BJP leader also stated that alertness and caution were required because the Bakrid festival is also scheduled before the beginning of the month of Shravan.
He stated that special attention should be paid to the cleanliness of rural and urban areas, as well as all Shiv temples, shivalayas, travel routes, and proper lighting. According to the release, he also asked officials to ensure that no electric wires were found dangling on these routes and that traffic arrangements were improved.
According to the release, the UP CM directed officials to “complete preparations regarding sensitive places and asked them to take action by establishing coordination and dialogue with religious and voluntary organisations.”
Every year during the Hindu calendar month of ‘Saavan,’ Shiva devotees, also known as Kanwariyas, fetch the holy waters of Ganga to offer at Shiva temples.
These pilgrims travel to Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, Gaumukh, and Gangotri, as well as Bihar’s Sultanganj, to drink the Ganga’s waters. In temples, this water is then offered to Lord Shiva.
