COVID-19: 12,220 cases reported in Kerala on Sunday, with a death toll of 14,586.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 12,220 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the state’s total to 30,65,336.

With 97 deaths reported on Sunday, the state’s death toll now stands at 14,586.

As many as 12,502 people were cured of the infection, bringing the total number of people cured to 29,35,423.

According to a press release from Health Minister Veena George, the number of active cases has reached 1,14,844. For the past 11 days, the caseload has remained above one lakh.

Rising COVID-19 cases in Kerala, combined with the recent Zika virus outbreak, are causing concern among health officials as the state battles to reduce new infections.

In the last 24 hours, 1,16,563 samples were tested, with a 10.48 percent test positivity rate. So far, 2,44,24,563 samples have been sent for testing (including the augmented sample).

40 of the positive cases were health workers, 71 were from outside the state, and 11,497 were infected through contact. The source of 612 of them’s infection is unknown.

Veena George recently stated that the virus numbers had risen due to certain unlocking measures and that they were expected to fall.

A total of 3,86,876 people are being watched in various districts. 3,62,022 are being quarantined at home or in institutions, while 24,854 are in hospitals.

On Sunday, 2279 people were admitted to hospitals.
