Sabarimala temple will be open to devotees from July 17 to July 21: Check the rules.

The Sabarimala temple is set to open for its monthly puja from July 17 to 21, with Covid-appropriate norms in effect on Saturday. Darshan of ‘Masapooja’ will be permitted to a maximum of 5,000 people via a virtual queue system.

“Those who have not yet received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine must submit a negative RT-PCR test certificate obtained within 72 hours of their visit to the temple,” the Chief Minister stated.

The following are the rules for visiting the temple:

Devotees who have been immunised against the coronavirus are permitted to visit the temple.

Devotees must present a full Covid vaccination certificate.

Devotees who have received negative RT PCR results within 48 hours will be permitted to visit.

Only 5,000 devotees would be permitted to offer prayers at the shrine per day during the Makaravilakku season due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Sabarimala Temple, considered Lord Ayyappa’s abode, is located in the Periyar Tiger Reserve in the Pathanamthitta District of Kerala’s Western Ghat mountain ranges.

On the eve of Makara Vilakku Day, millions of pilgrims flock to Kerala’s Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple. It is the Hindu holy day on which Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana met Sabari, a tribal Goddess. Devotees believe that on that day, Lord Dharmasastha suspends his Tapasya in order to bless all devotees who visit the temple.

They have a colour code for the pilgrimage that they adhere to. They must dress in black or blue. While on the pilgrimage, they can also be seen smearing Sandal paste and Vibhuti on their foreheads.
