Vinay Prakash is the new Resident Grievance Officer for Twitter in India.

New Delhi: According to Twitter’s website, Vinay Prakash has been named Resident Grievance Officer for India.

The US-based company has been in the middle of a storm over its alleged failure to comply with new IT rules in India, which require social media platforms with more than 50 lakh users to appoint three key personnel: a chief compliance officer, a nodal officer, and a grievance officer, among other things. All three individuals must be Indian citizens.

Vinay Prakash is the Resident Grievance Officer, according to information on Twitter’s website (RGO). Users can reach him via the page’s email address.

The page also stated, “Twitter can be contacted in India at the following address: 4th Floor, The Estate, 121 Dickenson Road, Bangalore 560 042.”

Prakash’s name appears alongside that of Jeremy Kessel, the Global Legal Policy Director headquartered in the United States.

In addition, the company released its compliance report for the period of May 26, 2021, to June 25, 2021. Another important obligation under the IT guidelines that went into effect on May 26 was this.

As required by the IT laws, Twitter has earlier selected Dharmendra Chatur as its interim resident grievance officer for India. Chatur, on the other hand, resigned last month.

The Indian government and Twitter have been at odds over new social media restrictions. Despite repeated reminders, the government has challenged Twitter over its willful resistance and failure to comply with the country’s new IT rules.

Twitter, which has an estimated 1.75 crore Indian users, has lost its legal shield as an intermediary in India, and is now accountable for any illegal content posted by its users.

On July 8, Twitter informed the Delhi High Court that it had appointed an interim chief compliance officer who was a resident of India and that it would make every effort to fill the regular position within eight weeks, as required by the new IT Rules.

It also stated that it was in the process of appointing an Indian resident as its interim RGO, which it expected to do on or before July 11, and that details would be posted on its “Help Page” as soon as possible.
