Biden Reiterates Israel’s Right to Defend Itself Amidst Ongoing Conflict

In a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, US President Joe Biden reaffirmed Israel’s right to respond to attacks and safeguard its citizens in the ongoing conflict with Hamas. Biden emphasized that Israel had not just the right but also the responsibility to defend its people. While acknowledging this, he also condemned Hamas for using Palestinian civilians as human shields, branding their tactics as despicable and cowardly.

The President stressed the importance of Israel adhering to international laws during its military actions and ensuring the safety of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. Biden also expressed gratitude towards Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for collaborating with the US to facilitate the flow of essential supplies to the people of Gaza. Moreover, he underscored the necessity of looking beyond the current crisis, advocating for a two-state solution and calling on global leaders, Israelis, Palestinians, and regional partners to collectively work towards a lasting peace in the Middle East.
