IMD forecasts thunderstorms and rain in regions of Delhi-NCR, UP, Haryana, and Rajasthan in the next hours.

New Delhi: Amid criticism about its forecasting of the Southwest Monsoon’s progress, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) expected thunderstorms and rain in areas of Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan over the next several hours on Tuesday (July 13, 2021).

The weather department said in a tweet around 6:30 a.m. that thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and winds of 20-40 km/h would occur over and adjacent to a few places in South-West Delhi, South Delhi (Jafarpur, Dwarka, Palam, Ayanagar, Deramandi), NCR (Gurugram, Manesar, Ballabhgarh), Rohtak, Meham, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Nuh,

Over Rajaund, Safidon, Narwana, Karnal, Kosli, and Bhiwadi (Haryana), thunderstorms with mild to moderate intensity rain are expected (Rajasthan).

During the next two hours, Rohtak, Meham, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Nuh, Sohana, Palwal (Haryana), and Kasganj (U.P.) may be affected.

Earlier on Monday, the IMD stated that’such type of failure’ by numerical models in the prediction of monsoon over the national capital is ‘rare and uncommon.’

According to the weather service’s most recent model analysis, moist easterly winds in the lower level from the Bay of Bengal would spread to northwest India, covering Punjab and Haryana by July 10, resulting in monsoon advancement and an increase in rainfall activity over the region, including Delhi, from July 10 onwards. As a result, the moist easterly winds have spread to northwest India, according to the report.
