India saw a modest increase in COVID-19 cases on a daily basis, with 38,792 new infections.

New Delhi: India registered a modest increase in daily COVID-19 cases and 38,792 new infections in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday (July 14, 2021).

In addition, the country recorded 624 new coronavirus-related fatalities and 41,000 recoveries. With this, the overall number of cases in India has risen to 3,09,46,074, of which 3,01,04,720 have recovered and 4,11,408 have died as a result of the infection.

The country presently has 4,29,946 active cases, with daily new infections continuing to fall. India added 31,443 infections during Monday and Tuesday, the lowest single-day increase in 118 days.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the average daily new cases fell from 3,87,029 between May 5 and May 11 to 40,841 between July 7 and July 13.

During a press conference on the COVID-19 situation on Tuesday, Dr VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, stated that the world is experiencing the third wave of COVID-19. It was also reported that the Rs 23,123 crore granted as the India COVID-19 emergency package will be utilized for ICU beds, the creation of pediatric units, the expansion of hospital beds, the installation of liquid medical oxygen storage tanks, and the inclusion of more ambulances.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed the COVID-19 situation in eight northeastern states, expressing concern about crowds who were not wearing face masks.

“It is true that COVID-19 has had a significant impact on tourism, business, and business, but today I will declare that it is not acceptable to have large crowds at markets in hill stations without wearing masks,” PM Modi had stated.
