Kerala receives heavy rainfall, IMD sounds orange, yellow alerts

Heavy rains are likely to lash out in Kerala within 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department here on Friday sounded an orange alert in the Pathanamthitta district. As per the alert, an orange alert is sounded when 204.4 mm rainfall is expected within 24 hours. Meanwhile, IMD sounded a yellow alert in 8 districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode on Friday.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts are placed under yellow alert on Saturday. A yellow alert is sounded when heavy rainfall of 115.5 mm t0 204.4 mm is expected within 24 hours. In view of the adverse weather conditions, fishermen are advised not to venture into the Kerala coast on Friday.
