Heavy rainfall in Kerala, yellow alert in 7 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Following a brief respite, Kerala is expected to see significant rainfall over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, and Thrissur districts have all received a yellow alert.

In four northern districts – Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kozhikode – the yellow alert has been extended until Saturday.

Residents in locations prone to flooding, riverbanks, and landslide-prone areas have been encouraged to take precautions. Residents living near the coast have also been advised to exercise caution and evacuate in accordance with the authorities’ instructions.
Strong gusts of up to 60 kmph are expected around the Kerala coast on Friday, prompting fishermen to go out into the sea.
The latest rains, according to IMD, are the result of a newly created low depression in the Arabian Sea.

A red alert means there will be more than 204 millimetres of rain in 24 hours, an orange alert means there will be severe to very heavy rain (115.6mm to 204.4m), and a yellow alert means there will be rain between 64.5mm and 115mm.
